The Office of Residence Life depends upon student staff members to carry out both managerial and educational functions in order to forward the mission of the department.  Staff is selected each year according to a prescribed process.  Below are brief explanations of each type of staff position.  For specific dates and information about a process, please click on the headings above.

Resident Advisors (RAs),  Fraternity House Assistants (FHAs), and Head Resident Advisors (HRs) are student staff members responsible for an assigned residence hall area or fraternity house.   These student staff members are part of the Office of Residence Life staff reporting to a Head Resident Advisor and/or Assistant Director and ultimately to the Director of Residence Life.

  • Resident Advisors work with other residence hall and College staff to foster a residence hall environment that supports the mission of the Office of Residence Life. Resident Advisors articulate the philosophy and policies of the Office of Residence Life and the College to their residents, and in turn, represent the needs of residential students to the administration.
  • Fraternity House Assistants work with other residence hall and College staff to foster an environment that supports the mission of the Office of Residence Life and furthers the values of their organization. House Assistants articulate the philosophy and policies of the Office of Residence Life, the College and the House Corporation to their residents, and in turn, represent the needs of residential students to the administration.
  • Head Residents live in the residence halls and are responsible for the promotion and maintenance of an attractive, safe, clean, respectful environment that is conducive to learning and student success. Moreover, the Head Resident serves in a key educational and managerial position that necessitates a significant personal commitment in terms of time and energy.
